Happy Joe's Kid’s Foundation Donates Bike to Boy With Special Needs!
In partnership with Hoover Elementary, the Hoover staff and PTA, SSAB, and Healthy Habits Bike Shop, the Happy Joe's Kids Foundation is presenting a much-needed bicycle to Gabe Keegan, a 5th grader at Hoover Elementary in Bettendorf. The presentation to Gabe will be at 9am on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Happy Joe’s in Bettendorf, Iowa, and all media are welcome. Gabe’s therapists have seen his ability to stand during pool therapy, and the hope is that with additional muscle-core development, Gabe will be able to stand and perhaps walk. Having this bicycle will help him develop those muscles.
The Happy Joe’s Kids Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children of all ages. Happy Joe Whitty stated, “I have always had a soft spot for these special kids and their families. The kids go through so much and the parents are amazing people who stop at nothing for their kids. Gabe and his family are no exception. I am proud to have met them and to do a little something to help.”
The bike will help Gabe with his present challenges and be appropriate as he grows. This has truly been a community effort in making his wish come true.
Helping to present the bike to Gabe will be Happy Joe's newest intern, Brock Davis. Brock is 24 years old has his own physical limitations. He works from his wheelchair and speaks through an iPad. He knows firsthand about the challenges and stereotypes that individuals with special needs sometimes face. Brock is a wonderful role model for kids like Gabe as he is continuing his education at the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater to pursue a career in Media Arts and Game Design. Brock will be working for the Happy Joe's Kids Foundation during the summer helping us to improve our fundraising efforts and develop our social media outreach.
