Happy Joe's opened its doors on Main Street on August 31, 2026, as our third Minnesota location. Owner and franchisee Brian Smith grew up eating at Happy Joe's in Iowa, and he's bringing back the old-school touches that made it special. "There's something about the recipes and atmosphere," Brian says. Now he's sharing the same pizza, ice cream and family fun with a new generation in Mendota Heights.
Our story goes back to 1972, when Joe Whitty opened the first Happy Joe's in Davenport, Iowa, and went on to create the original Taco Pizza. It's still the star of our menu, alongside signature pies like the Lollapalooza, piled with more than 200 pepperonis (call the store to order one). We also serve wings, pasta, sandwiches and breakfast pizza any time we're open, and gluten-free and cauliflower crusts are available on small pizzas. Stopping in for pizza in Mendota Heights at lunchtime? Our lunch buffet comes with a salad bar.
Save room for the ice cream counter. Alongside our hand-scooped sundaes and treats, we serve Bridgeman's, the Minnesota ice cream brand that got its start in Duluth more than a century ago, making us an easy pick for ice cream in Mendota Heights. Want some for later? Grab a pint to take home.
Planning a birthday or team celebration? Book our party room, let the kids loose in the arcade, and drop a coin in the box to send our train rumbling along the walls. With a kids menu and high chairs on hand, we're one of the most family-friendly restaurants in Mendota Heights.
We're open 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. Dine in, swing through the drive-through, order online for carryout, or get pizza delivery in Mendota Heights. We cater, too, so let Happy Joe's feed your next office lunch, team party or family get-together.
